EARTH IS SINGING – SPRING

Global warming and Climate Change are some of the urgent topics featuring on international and local agendas in the Media. Many projects are formulated with the intent to reverse damage, or to be preventive. It suggests therefore, that mankind is in a position to make decisions about it’s environment and it’s surrounding issues. It also has to be ackowledged that Earth itself, is a living organic organism going through cycles, that outreach the span of generations. In the view of the Artist, Earth and mankind has the ability to create an interactive partnership. Some preventive projects may be ambitious, but all are able to individually respond to the ‘Call of the Earth’.

In this particular sequence, the Artist defines a self-determined project, in an attempt to connect to the Earth. She starts by investigating her immediate surroundings, through the camera lens. This leads to an almost forensic approach, giving way to a series of close-ups, that scrutinize shrub  greenery, the organic structure of the leaves, and the petals of Flora found in her own residential garden. Inspiration is found by, engaging by means of a chosen organic process and artistic methodology, to connect to Earth.

The outcome of the sequence leads the Artist to surprising discoveries. Senses were overwhelmed by lovely fragrances, saturated in paper and textures created by organic ‘left overs’. Overwhelming colours were reflected on paper, literally extracted from the pounding process. The ephemeral quality of shrubs, leaves, blooms and seasons has to be considered.

These impromptu compositions are then further delicately defined and redefined, with alternative media, to reach a final product.
