ARTIST CV – KARIN KRIGE

The Artist was born on a farm on the Eastern Highveld, where she grew up. The family decided then to move to the Witwatersrand. She completed her high school years at the Afrikaans Hoër Meisieskool in Pretoria in 1970 and thereafter, enrolled for a BA-Linguistics and History of Arts- Degree at the former University of RAU, now known as the University of Johannesburg. On the completion of her studies, she taught art as well as linguistics.

Being married to a legal practitioner, the Artist followed her husband to the rural town of Brits- Hartbeespoort situated in the North West Province of S.A. There, they settled on a small piece of land. New career opportunities opened up for the Artist at that stage, and she was appointed as translator by the Uranian Enrichment Corporation in the Province of North West.

With urban development taking the rural town of Hartbeespoort by storm, the town and surrounding areas became a focal point for tourism. The Artist used this opportunity to open up her art gallery to enhance her career. She worked with dealers that sold her work country wide and internationally and held several solo exhibitions.

As a curator of her own gallery, the Artist decided to upgrade her curatorship and Artistic skills by enrolling for a full Bachelor of Visual Arts Degree and Honours at UNISA. During this course, she completed a curatorship course with Carol Brown, as well as, master-classes with internationally known artist-mentors, that profoundly influenced her work and expanded her vision to work as a mixed-media artist.
